This
book was inspired when my mum Renee Mosher was diagnosed with terminal
cancer in 2006.
Whilst caring for her during her final weeks we had many
chats and during one of them she asked me if there was anything of hers
that I'd like, I said that I'd like her recipes, which she wrote down in a
book for me. A few months later my partner was rushed into hospital with a
rare toxic reaction to antibiotics. I was told there was nothing they
could do and my partner would or wouldn't survive. (Thankfully she did!) I
was feeling really low and like everyone no matter how old they are, when
the proverbial hits the fan, you always want your mum.
I
picked up her recipe book went out and bought the ingredients for one of
the recipes and cooked it. The aroma in the house was quite a strange
experience as it felt as though my mum was there in the house cooking it.
When I tasted the food it was a very emotional moment as it tasted like
she'd made it and it was quite upsetting but also very comforting at the
same time. The only way I can explain how I felt is that it was like I'd
had a “hug from mum”! As my Mum always said, “out of everything bad comes
a little bit of good".
Well this is it. I set up this website and advertised for people’s
favourite family recipes and any fond food memories they had in local
newspapers the internet and local radio stations and compiled the recipe
book “A HUG FROM MUM”. I hope you enjoy it and there are pages in the back
for you to add your own favourite family recipes.
